3 Ways To Improve Your Candidate Pool With One Easy Step

One of the greatest, and most overlooked, benefits of having a formal background screening program is that it can drastically and immediately increase the quality of your candidate pool.

How?

During your recruiting process (i.e. job posting, career fair, etc.), inform candidates in advance that they will be subject to a thorough background check, this will:

  1. discourage applicants with something to hide from applying…let those dishonest employees go work for your competition
  2. encourage honesty in the application and interview process
  3. attract qualified applicants who want to work for an employer that cares about the safety and quality of its workforce

By clearly notifying applicants during the recruiting process about your background check policy, you can minimize the time, money and headache spent on dishonest and unqualified candidates. 

A word of warning here; it is not advisable to advertise that you conduct background checks or drug testing if in fact you do not; you may wind up having to defend this practice in court. In addition, I guarantee that despite your clear notification, there will be dishonest applicants who will roll the dice and try to make it through your screening process.
