The national employment situation for December 2015 increased by 292,000, while the unemployment rate remained the same at 5.0 percent.
Jobs were added in the professional and business services industry; as well as in construction, healthcare and food services and drinking places.
Unemployment numbers have consistently declined since December 2013, when the national unemployment rate was at 6.7 percent.
The number of long-term unemployed people, meaning those who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more, stayed the same with 2.1 million unemployed in the month of December.
